Kurdistan Film Commission Hosts Professional Location Management Workshop with LMGI
5, Nov 2025
The Kurdistan Film Commission hosted a four-day professional workshop on location management and scouting, led by John Rakich, President of the Location Managers Guild International (LMGI), and Andrea Keener, LMGI board member and senior location manager with more than two decades of industry experience.
The programme brought together emerging and early-career film professionals for a comprehensive look into the responsibilities and workflow of the Location Department.
Sessions covered the full operational scope, from department structure and on-set coordination to preparing for director and producer scouts, permitting processes, and managing property and community relations during production.
Participants also explored the principles of professional location scouting, including evaluating potential filming sites, capturing effective reference photography, and organising detailed scout itineraries and documentation for production teams.
The workshop concluded with a practical field exercise in Tawella and Byara, where attendees applied the week’s learning in real-world environments—reinforcing both the creative and logistical aspects of the role.
This initiative reflects the Commission’s commitment to developing local film industry capacity and strengthening connections with international organisations such as LMGI.
Kurdistan Film Commission extends its appreciation to all participants and looks forward to future training opportunities and collaborations.
