The Milestones of KFO!

Kurdistan film industry welcomes Kurdistan Film Commission (KFO), a recently established film commission in Kurdistan.

Under the visionary leadership of Bavi Yassin and a dynamic team of women, KFO was launched at the EFM Berlinale 2024 in Germany. Its mission is to elevate the cinematic landscape of Kurdistan, particularly in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate. The film commission is dedicated to professionalizing and bringing innovation to the filmmaking scene in Kurdistan.

One of the most notable features of KFO is its comprehensive online platforms, which provide a one-stop solution for all the needs of filmmakers.

KFO created the first LOCATION DATABASE in Kurdistan, which hosts the most extensive and diverse locations. This valuable asset showcases a wide range of locations across the Sulaymaniyah Governorate, catering to filmmakers' different needs and requirements. Now, both national and international filmmakers have a wide range of options readily accessible.

KFO is not merely a film commission, but a transformative force in the regional film industry. It has pioneered the first industry guide database in the region, allowing production companies to register their services across all stages of filmmaking. By promoting collaboration and resource-sharing, KFO is constructing an inclusive ecosystem that empowers local talents and service providers, while also drawing international productions to the region.

Bavi Yassin emphasised the commission's dedication to showcasing the rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty of Slemani to the global filmmaking community, stating, "I am immensely proud of the work we have accomplished so far while striving to create an industry that provides equal opportunities for everyone. Our goal is to establish a vibrant and sustainable film industry in Kurdistan that generates new job opportunities and supports local Kurdish filmmakers and international film productions who choose Kurdistan as their filming destination."
